Knife Performance Challenge

The Knife Performance Challenge is for the knife makers and the general public to see knives in ACTION; and doing what they are made to do - CUT!   During the knife show knife makers of all levels and styles will demonstrate what their knives can do in a series of cutting events.  We invite all knife makers coming to the show to prepare and participate in the event.  It will be an opportunity to show-case your knife making skills to the public, your peers, and yourself in a challenging yet friendly environment.

Goal: Provide an open and challenging series of uniform events where knife makers of any level, whether stock removal or forged, can present their hand crafted knife to be tested for quality in general and practical applications and uses. We want to promote and recognize knife makers that make quality knives.

Method: The Knife Performance Challenge is a series of general and practical ‘working knife’ applications the knife maker challenges their hand crafted knife against. It is not a contest against other knife makers, but rather a CHALLENGE against themselves to see if their knife has a high level of quality expected for general and practical applications and uses.

The events are not ‘timed’ or ‘measured’; but rather just completed at your own pace.  It does not require athleticism or big muscles.  In fact, you can even ask someone else to go through the events using your knife.

A knife maker will have successfully completed the Challenge if his or her knife completed the 6 events and needs only a minor sharpening to be restored to original condition. Those knife makers that successfully complete the challenge will receive a Knife Performance Challenge plaque, recognition on the Rocky Mountain Knife Show website, AND BRAGGING RIGHTS!!!!.
